Recertification

As a referee, you must re-certify every year. USSF certification is a complete calendar year (January-December). To re-certify for the following calendar year, you must attend a re-certification clinc. These clinics are normally held during the SUMMER MONTHS preceeding the new certification year. As an example, if you are currently certified for 2007 (January through December) and want to re-certify for 2008 (January through December), then you must re-certify at a clinic during the SUMMER of 2007 .

The placement of these clinics is for two major reasons. USSF law changes go into effect on July 1, so you learn the new rules during the summer. The second reason is most leagues are not in session and referees are available.

Choose a recertification course

USSF uses grade levels to indicate what progress you have made as a referee. USSF grade levels have nothing to do with your grade in school. There are two courses for re-certifying referees. Each is for referees of specific grade levels. Read the descriptions below and choose the course that best meets your needs below:

  • Sign up for a "Recertification Clinic " if you are currently a grade 9 or 8 referee and your certification is NOT expired.
  • Referees wanting to advance or are currently at the grade 7, 6, or 5 level should consider attending an "Advanced Recertification Clinic " designed for upper level officials. You will also need to sign-up for "Fitness Test" to maintain your grade level or upgrade.
  • Referees who have let their certification expire for only 1 year may attend a re-certification session to renew their certificaton. However, referees in this situation may not referee until January of the following year.
  • Referees who have let their certification expire for more than one year may start over with an entry level clinc or need to contact the State Referee Administrator (srakansas@swbell.net) to discuss their situation.
